The Outcome is Universal

We are at war
With ourselves
Two hemispheres
Segmented

Neurological synapses
Vitally connected
Firing on both
Desire and Logic

Duty bound
To some feelings
About this, that,
Or the other

Using language
That is uncooperative
Clashing with beliefs
Challenging our values

Overclocked
Stalling into paralysis
Depressions left
On sofa cushions

Unable to act
In a time of crisis
Waiting for a savior
Of magnificent proportions

Dismissing fairy tales
Of the hero's journey
The average person
Leaving worldly comforts

To embark on adventure
Not to save themselves
But to take part in
The larger story

You, whose heart
Is divided
By both good and evil
You, who must

Negotiate
With monsters
With gods
With the fallen angel himself

At each junction
You are signaling
To one side or the other
Electrical impulses

Across the widening gap
Transforming our structure
A passionate dance
Where self-control

Is of utmost importance
A plasticity, a memory
Muscle deep
We twitch, we tweak

We weave together
Possibility
Compounding actions
Increasing probability

Strengthening
Against the disease
The internal conflict,
Malignant

Carried out in public
Nurtured in
A natural environment
Defense systems

Hubs of resistance
Hope, faith, love, persistence
The path forward
Emotional and holistic

Not easily classified
Into color or religion
Sex or orientation
Where physics

And science
Scramble
To make sense
Of conscience

Surely dopamine
Is not the sole motivator
The inspiration for cathedrals
Romance, or devilish deeds

Beyond our tools,
Our measurements
We intuit a consciousness
That speaks in exponents

And fractals
In miracles, imaginations
And dreams
We must hold onto

Co-creating
A better world
With a force
We cannot put name

Or face to
That radiates
Benevolence
And builds trust

Across expanding distances
We are at war
And win or lose
The outcome is universal
